Gallery is opened Mondays and wednesdays from 11:30 to 7.
Gallery is closed on Sundays.
Painters, apparently, have been the most successful among artists of any other kind in our country.
I am most confident that with a careful sift through today’s paintings, we could easily find something significant artists wish to say, and that, for obvious reasons; painting can exist deprived of technology and modern tools and as a meaningful art, still in today’s world, it has a lot to say. Available sources for painters, either subjective or in instruction, can readily update their state of mind.
And the present exhibition, “Prestress”, is an exhibition of the works of five artists; five 23 to 35 year-old women painters. And the base on which these women gathered around; just like many other exhibits that I curated before, no apparent reason may be visible at first sight; but, evidently, they are all women; and also, they all paint, away from pretenses of victimization of artists, particularly women artists of the Middle-East, away from politicizing their work and the usual resultant slogans, and they ameliorate the environment of their media to the utmost of their ability. Meaning, that even if they say something, it is neither direct, nor transparent, nor the expected cliché of women and miniature and erotism enveloped in hijab or any other cliché of the sort; they have something new to say; and they do not say it in a language of complex mixtures of symbolism and philosophy and linguistics or … no, they do not. They simply paint their lived lives and experiences. They paint the images in their minds, and not what is expected of them from the overseas media and their news headlines and audience; and moreover, they all paint away from the shenanigans of the market, to simply improve their art, regardless of exhibitions and curriculum vitas.
Lastly, what I found in common in their works is a sense of anxiety, a sense and vision and content that before coming up to the surface or remaining on the surface is shaped in their mind and thereupon recreated on their canvas. Maybe if we consider the title “Prestress”, we will better understand the concept; prestress is an expression used in construction. Prestress is applying a force to a structure to withstand its working load, and interesting to know that this is done by reinforcing steel strands.
