People with strange and unusual faces among unknown animalsgaze at us, worriless and undisturbed; animal-men with bizarre shapes covered in foliage. Plantsthat cover the major part of the work have no genealogy, but are similar to patterns of Persian carpets and or Persian manuscripts. Horses, crocodiles, sheep, snakes, eagles and … are amongst animals not worthy of this name, but are the very creations of the esoteric conceptual world of the artist. The architecture in certain pictures seems traditional, prompting in mind mythology and fairy tales of the ancient times.
Paintings of this artist are quite similar to the works of the artists of Vienna School of fantastic realism that were introduced to the world in the 1960s. This group of artists emphasized on a passage to the inner mystical dimensions and tried to realize the factors and the association of the unconscious in the level of preconscious. They never put the conscious world completely aside in their works, however they indisputably observed the association of logical and illogical images brought to their mind.
The intricate labyrintian works of Dayani may well direct anyone’s imaginationto a particular end. At times they resemblethe Kafkan world or bring to mind moments in SadeghHedayat’s “The Blind Owl”,and at other times the journeyineach image drives the viewer into the world of romantic poetry.
The artist, naturally, has not haveextensive classical education, hence there is a lot to say regarding, for instance, anatomical forms in his work; but his mind being “existential” rather than extravagant or illusive, compensatesfor his weakness, turning it into his strength; therather missing element in our contemporary art.
Imagination arises from memory - an “eternal”, sometimes a “group”or perhaps an “individual” memory. Imagination enriches the creativity; the stranger the imagining, the more ingenious the work of art. Imagination is the basis of any work of art without which the essence of the work is brought to destruction. As would Benedetto Croce state, imagination is the true character of art; the moment the intellect replaces the imagination, art is annihilated and dead.
