More about the exhibiition
Having taken the course of evolution to nameless borders, Impressionism may have passed its golden years, but we still know a good many people among masters and novices who follow this tradition and further enrich its treasures with more enchanting works. For myself, I am still captivated by the magic of Impressionism and I cherish painters who express their knowledge, emotions and feelings through this school of art.

Although Hossein Ahmadi Nassab spends less time painting than a “full-time painter”*, he is an impressionist artist who pursues his work with modesty and away from fuss and pretence, only to exhibit his works once in a while in a gallery.

In this rich land – which stretches from the high mountains of Alborz and the blue waters of the Caspian sea to the burning sandy shores of the Persian Gulf – there are not many artists as capable as Ahmadi Nassab who manifest the heat, the fragility and the sharpness of the “South” on the canvas by fusing the reds, and the yellows and the blacks, and by taking the viewer to the land of the sun, and by melting them the same way that he melts his masked women and bronzed men.

Perhaps he should best be called “the impressionist painter of the harbor”, because the main component of his work is our familiar harbour; and I must confess that for myself, despite my attraction for the burning explicit works of Ahmadi Nassab, I only personified his paintings only after I spiritually savvied the South. But I was fortunate enough to live and experience the searing land of the South and the warm water of the Persian Gulf, along with this very artist, and to discover the complexity of his loyalty and devotion to the authentic and truthful reality of the South.

Hossein Ahmadi Nassab was born in the port of Minab and grew up in Bandar Abbass. In the first encounters he is astonishingly shy, reserved and hard to discover. But after being unveiled, he becomes as pure, joyful and bright as the colors on his canvas!

(In the attached photo, you see the true Hossein Ahmadi Nassab in the Island of Hormuz – Nature’s palette or colorful Pearl of the Persian Gulf)

* Perhaps I should explain why I said he is not a “full-time painter”. It is because parallel to his love for painting he has a passion for the theatre. He has spent many years in this field and that is how he is known in his homeland.
